Good Afternoon Sun City Festival Residents,
I wanted to let you know that I have received an email update from Cox Communication on the recent outages in our area. Please see the update below from Cox that addresses the current issues and what they are working on to prevent outages in the future.
In response to the repeated damage of Cox's aerial fiber line feeding the Sun City Festival and Tartesso areas, Cox has been working with the State Land Department, Bureau of Land Management, and private land owners to obtain the necessary easements and permits to underground this fiber line, which will protect this line from future vandalism. As we have been working through the necessary government permitting requirements over the past year, the repeated vandalism of Cox's network has escalated, and most recently, the safety of Cox employees responding to the vandalism has been put in jeopardy by the high volume of recreational shooting activities in this area. Due to the increased number of target shooters in the area of the line, our technicians now require an armed law enforcement escort to the site of the damage before they can begin repairs.
To date, Cox has completed the undergrounding of the fiber line on private land. We will begin construction on BLM land the week of January 22, and the State Land immediately thereafter. The construction is anticipated to take up to three months.
During the construction period, we are working with federal, state and local law enforcement teams to reduce the irresponsible shooting activities that put Cox's network and employees at risk. We will also manage the construction to minimize further service interruptions in this area. We appreciate our customers? patience and understanding while we complete this necessary work to protect our network from future vandalism and protect our employees completing this important work.
