Good afternoon Sun City Festival Residents,
Many of our homeowners have heard that the City of Buckeye is proposing increases to various water rates in the coming years. These increases will measurably add to the Community Association’s landscape irrigation costs.
The proposed increases to landscape irrigation water rates, which are currently $7.93 perk gal (1,000 gallons) are as follows:
FY 2020(effective 10/1/19): $9.78
FY 2021 (effective 10/1/20): $10.43
FY 2022 (effective 10/1/21): $11.24
FY 2023 (effective 10/1/22): $12.08
The fiscal year2023 rate is projected to be 52.3 percent higher than the current rate.
With the assistance of our management company’s accounting team and utilizing the 2019irrigation budget provided by our landscape maintenance company as the baseline, we anticipate that our additional cost for irrigation water for the four-year period beginning in October 2019 to be in excess of $1.258 million dollars. This figure does not take into consideration the costs to irrigate future common areas that will be turned over to the Community Association as the community continues to develop.
To cover these additional irrigation water costs, it is anticipated that an additional $12-$15per month will need to be added to the monthly homeowner assessment over the next four-year period. This increase will not take place all at once but will be calculated annually based on the impact each year’s increased water rate has on the overall budget.
For residents interested in speaking to the Buckeye City Council, they will be meeting at the following dates and times:
• June 4(Tuesday) at 4:30 for workshop, 6:00 for the regular council meeting, and a CFD board meeting following that. Residents will be allowed to make comments related to city government for a maximum of three (3) minutes at the regular meeting and if there are numerous speakers on the same topic, a maximum of 15minutes will be allowed (5 speakers at 3 minutes each). Each person wishing to speak must sign in with the city clerk prior to the meeting.
• June 18(Tuesday) regular, special and CFD board meetings are scheduled to start at6:00 pm. This time could be changed prior to the scheduled date. As with the June 4 meeting, public comment is allowed only at the regular meeting and the same rules and restrictions shall apply.
• July 2(Tuesday) at 6:00 pm, the Council will take action to adopt the proposed water rate changes. This, too, is a regular meeting and public comment will be allowed.
NOTE: The agendas for these meetings have not yet been published so it is not known when the proposed water rates might or might not be discussed prior to final action on July 2.
As we learn more about these pending rate increases, we will be sure to keep our residents informed via email blasts and the Neighborhood Representatives.
